Varicose Vein Treatment May Lower Dementia Risk, Study Finds

Latest News Vein Treatment May Lower Dementia Risk

A recent study published in the Public Library of Science found a link between varicose veins and dementia, while also suggesting that treatment for varicose veins may reduce dementia risk.

Researchers of the study compiled data from over 430 thousand participants in South Korea. One in five participants had varicose veins, and all participants were monitored for signs of dementia over the next 13 years. After a follow-up, over 13 percent of participants had been diagnosed with dementia.

The study confirmed that people with varicose veins were 24 percent more likely to develop all-cause dementia compared to people without varicose veins. However, researchers also noted that participants who received treatment for varicose veins were 43% less likely to develop vascular dementia, which is caused by reduced blood flow to the brain.

This study further proves that the earlier varicose veins are treated, the better a person’s health outcome will be. Additional information about varicose vein treatment can be found here
