Deion Sanders Puts His Health First After Blood Clots

Deion Sanders and his blood clots

Former NFL star and Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders recently underwent a medical procedure to address newly found blood clots in his feet. His procedure occurred days after he was noticeably limping during a football game in Fort Worth, TX, according to AP News and ESPN.

Blood clots can happen for different reasons. Sanders had a personal history of blood clots, placing him at a higher risk for future clots. Other risk factors include injuries, smoking, and certain medical conditions, such as varicose veins

When varicose veins are left untreated, it increases the risk of a blood clot called deep vein thrombosis (DVT). DVT can often lead to pain, swelling, and skin redness or warmth in the affected leg. This blood clot can be dangerous, especially if it breaks off and travels to the lungs. Treating varicose veins early can significantly reduce this risk.
