Varicose veins were listed as a potential risk factor for tarsal tunnel syndrome in a recent article from Verywell Health, which covered the causes of nerve pain in the feet.
Tarsal tunnel is similar to carpal tunnel, in which a nerve is squeezed in a tight space, causing burning, tingling, or pain in the arch of the foot. As varicose veins continue to enlarge, the bulging vein can add pressure to this nerve and cause symptoms.
It’s important to address varicose veins as soon as other symptoms appear, such as leg pain, swelling, and fatigue. Early detection and treatment can lead to better health outcomes and a reduced risk of health complications like tarsal tunnel.
